Chard North

Jenny Kenton and Martin Carnell

Jenny Kenton and Martin Carnell are standing to be the Somerset Councillors for Chard North. Both are committed local campaigners and work hard to help people in our area.

Martin Carnell has lived in Chard for over 30 years and is married with two grown up children. Martin is ex Royal Air Force and is currently a Group Commander in the Fire Service, he is retiring from this role this year. Martin is also a rugby player for Chard Town, director of the charity Chard Watch which supports isolated adults locally, and he has a passion for helping people.

Jenny was born in the Happy Return pub in Chard and has lived and worked here all her life, mostly running local pubs before taking early retirement 5 years ago. Jenny is currently a town and district councillor, a local Morris dancer, and works hard for local people. She is also a founding member of Chard Town Team that organises the Christmas Lights, Halloween, and the Summer Festival.

During their time as councillors Jenny and Martin have both been heavily involved in the work to introduce Chard Leisure Centre and have worked hard to protect local services and help residents with their issues and ideas. Jenny and Martin are the only people who can beat the Conservatives in Chard North and stop further Conservative cuts.

The Lib Dem plan for our area

Protect local services

In the face of irresponsible Conservative Government and County Council cuts to our funding, Liberal Democrat run District Councils have prevented cuts to our vital local services.

Improve our environment

The Liberal Democrats are actively improving our environment. We are investing in local parks, planting trees, and promoting renewable energy across Somerset.

Invest in our communities

Liberal Democrat run District Councils are investing millions in Town Centres across Somerset. We have also invested in local community centres, theatres and are working to improve our parks and green spaces.
